Model Jerry Hall is “heartbroken” after media mogul Rupert Murdoch told her their marriage was over via email, according to The Mail+.
The Mail+ reported that Hall, 66, was waiting for Murdoch, 91, to join her in the UK when she received an email from the chairman and chief executive of News Corp.
The email said their six-year marriage was over and she should now only communicate with him through his lawyers, the outlet said, citing insiders.
“I still love him. I’m devastated,” Hall reportedly told a friend, according to The Mail+.
A source told the Mail+ that Hall is ‘really devastated’ by what happened and ‘insists it was all a clap of thunder’.
The source added: “One day they were planning to be together for the summer in London and then there was this message asking her to only contact him through lawyers.”
Mail+ sources said the couple had faced difficulties in their marriage during the pandemic. Hall took on a “gatekeeper” role to protect her elderly husband, owner of Fox News and WSJ, from contracting COVID-19, the newspaper reported.
Hall believes her family perceived this as an attempt to cut contact with her husband, according to The Mail+. She now accuses Murdoch’s children of ‘ruining’ the wedding, according to The Mail+.
The newspaper also reported that earlier this year discussions were held with Hall and the Murdoch family about the money they would receive upon Murdoch’s death, which is worth $17.9 billion. A source told The Mail+ it was said that some family members were concerned that no further arrangements would be made for Hall.
Although reports say Murdoch announced the marriage was over, it was Hall who initiated the divorce.
Hall filed for divorce from Murdoch on Friday, according to Reuters, citing “irreconcilable differences.”
She sought spousal support and unspecified attorney fees from Murdoch, the California court filing said. Hall also asked the court to end his ability to grant support to Murdoch, Reuters reported.
