RMC: end-of-term celebrations are suffocated by student mourning

The sounds of celebration of the end of the school year have been drowned out by tragedy at the Royal Military College of Canada as students and staff mourn the loss of four of their own.

Cadets Jack Hogarth, Andrei Honciu, Broden Murphy and Andres Salek, all about to graduate, died early Friday morning when their vehicle plunged into the lake surrounding the campus in Kingston, Ont.

Students had to continue the final day of exams on Saturday with the incident hanging over their heads, but said they had tried to concentrate on the task at hand.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau released a statement saying his heart breaks for the families and friends of the four who died.

RMC Commander Josee Kurtz said Friday that the entire university community was devastated by the loss.

The investigation is ongoing.
