Pokey and Schleppie awards recognize New York’s least reliable bus lines

The annual Pokey and Schleppie awards have highlighted New York’s worst bus routes for commuters.

The event, organized by the New York Public Interest Research Group and Transit Center, analyzed 77 local bus routes in the month of May with at least seven weekday passengers.

The B12, which carries Brooklynites from Lefferts Gardens to New York’s east end, has won the title of ‘least reliable bus line’, mainly due to its ‘clustering’ – when no buses pass for a certain time, several return to the continuation.

The B6 was second for the least reliable bus line, with a similar clustering problem.

The MTA says Bronx bus speeds have increased since implementing an overhaul in June, removing some bus stops to increase efficiency on borough routes, among other changes.

The MTA president said they are working to enforce bus lane rules and hope to begin the process of redesigning Brooklyn’s bus lanes by the end of 2022.
