Ottawa Chamberfest ‘will play for Ukraine’

Past and present artistic directors of Chamberfest are joining forces on Thursday for a concert to raise funds to help Ukraine in its battle against Russia.

The festival’s current artistic director, Ukrainian-born violinist Carissa Klopoushak, will join Gryphon Trio, the ensemble that includes former Chamberfest artistic director Roman Borys on cello, in a program that also includes the Ewashko Singers. , soprano Irena Medvedeva, violinist Emily Kruspe, actress Moriana Kachmarsky and the singing group Kolizhanky from Ottawa. They will celebrate a range of Ukrainian music and culture, from chamber and choral music to folk singing and poetry.

The music starts at 7 p.m. at the Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre. The Play for Ukraine concert will be broadcast live.

Instead of paying admission fees, volunteers from the Congress of Ukrainian Canadians collect donations for the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.
