Netflix cancels fan-favorite series after two seasons

After just two seasons on the streaming service, Netflix has officially canceled the Michael B. Jordan-produced series Raising Dion, a superhero drama that premiered in 2019. Variety confirmed the news in a report but revealed that series star Sammi Haney took to Instagram to reveal the show was also ending. In one post, they wrote, “Sad to say Raising Dion is CANCELED [sic] Thank you for all the amazing support we’ve received from all of our wonderful fans! Season 2 was a success, equal to season 1, even if you only look at the number of people who watched everything and wanted a season 3!

Series star Ja’Siah Young also confirmed the news on social media, saying, “Just wanted to let you know that Raising Dion will not be coming out for season three. He’s not one of us, it’s not me it’s not you guys you guys were great i absolutely loved it and i loved every bit of it thank you but Raising Dion is not coming for season 3 it’s alright folks guys don’t worry I’m still playing so I’ll see you in the next one though… That’s how the game goes Sometimes the game goes (that way) Just wanted to let you know asap as possible.

Based on the comedy series of the same name by Dennis Liu, Black Panther and Creed Actor Michael B. Jordan was attached to it early on as both executive producer and star, appearing as the titular father Dion, appearing in four episodes over the show’s two seasons. For those unfamiliar with the premise of the series, the official Netflix description reads:

“Raising Dion follows the story of Nicole (Alisha Wainwright) and her son Dion (Ja’Siah Young) after Dion begins to manifest several mysterious superhero abilities. Two years after defeating the Crooked Man (Jason Ritter), season two follows Dion as he continues to hone his powers with the support of his mother and Tevin (Rome Flynn), his trainer Biona who catches Nicole’s eye. With new student Brayden (Griffin Robert Faulkner)—another propelled child—a series of alarming events unfold, and Dion learns that danger is still looming.Navigating twists and surprise visitors, Dion and Nicole must once again prevail – not just to save themselves, but for the whole city of Atlanta.
