Trevor Caulton, a Mount Isa man, was arrested and charged with murder after he allegedly drove a vehicle into a crowd of people, striking and killing a 13-year-old girl.

Emergency services were called to the corner of Delacour Drive and Dent Street in the Mount Isa suburb of Pioneer after midnight on August 6 and treated the girl for serious head injuries.
Police confirmed that she succumbed to her injuries and died at the scene.
Mr Caulton’s lawyer appeared on his behalf by telephone at Mount Isa Magistrates Court on Monday.
A full memorandum of evidence was being prepared and the case would appear for mention in Mount Isa Magistrates Court on September 26.
The victim has been identified and his family has been contacted, police said.
Fears of reprisals prompt police to alert
Police called for calm in the community after the tragedy.
“I am concerned about the unrest in the community – this is a distressing case and this poor girl’s life has been taken,” Acting Mount Isa Police Superintendent Jason Smith said.
“We recognize the grief of the community and implore everyone to remain calm around this incident and assist the police in the investigation.
“Sometimes in our community, some may be tempted to seek revenge. Know that the law has been enforced, the alleged perpetrator is in jail and the police have done all they can.”
