Call it the party of the year, call it the East Coast Oscars, call it fashion’s biggest night. Whichever way you slice it, the Met Gala is a night to remember, and we’re here to help you do just that with our Met Gala red carpet live blog.
Tonight’s event is the release party for “In America: An Anthology of Fashion.” Part two of curator Andrew Bolton’s in-depth look at American style, the exhibition explores the work of famous names in fashion (Halston, Oscar de la Renta, Bill Blass, etc.) and those who have been forgotten (like Ann Lowe , the African-American maker of Jacqueline Kennedy’s wedding dress), with approximately 100 garments featured in 13 of the Met’s American vintage rooms, each designed by acclaimed directors from Martin Scorsese to Julia Dash, from Sofia Coppola to Chloe Zhao.
The evening benefits the Costume Institute (a typical Met Gala generates an eight-figure sum for the museum) and will be hosted by Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Regina King, who put on her director’s cap to bring one period pieces for life. They will be joined by Honorary Co-Chairs Anna Wintour, Tom Ford and Instagram’s Adam Mosseri, as well as a who’s who of the world’s biggest stars, all of whom have been briefed on the “golden glamour” dress code. What are they going to wear? Expect a lot of risk. “The wonderful thing about the Met is that people feel very fearless,” says Anna Wintour.
