Manchester United provide injury update on Harry Maguire and Jadon Sancho

Harry Maguire could play for Manchester United again this season, but Jadon Sancho is unlikely to do so.

That’s according to caretaker boss Ralf Rangnick, who gave an injury update on the two England internationals ahead of United’s final two games of the campaign. United played their last game of the season at Old Trafford on Monday as they lost 3-0 to Brentford.

A fixture oddity due to Chelsea’s involvement in the FA Cup final means United have two more trips to come, with fixtures against Brighton and Crystal Palace still to play. Captain Maguire hasn’t made an appearance since the humiliating 4-0 loss to Liverpool, although he was benched for the next defeat at Arsenal with a minor knee injury.

Rangnick hopes he will return to the field before the end of the season. “Harry Maguire could be available again,” he told BBC Sport. “We have to wait and see if he can train the day after tomorrow. [Wednesday].”

Winger Sancho suffers from tonsillitis which required hospital stay. He won’t be available for the trip to Brighton and is sure to return to the pitch in the final game as well.

“Yes [Sancho manages to return] then maybe in the last game,” added the German. “I was in contact with him this afternoon. He was in the hospital until this morning so he only got home today. He still doesn’t feel well so, that’s for sure, no [for Brighton].”

Luke Shaw and Paul Pogba are also sidelined for the remainder of the campaign, although the injured list was reduced on Monday as Fred and Edinson Cavani returned.
