Manchester United ‘agree to a £15m fee for Juventus’ Adrien Rabiot’ to resolve their midfield crisis, but will now have to deal with the star’s famous mother Veronique as attention turns on personal terms
- Man United have agreed terms with Juventus for midfielder Adrien Rabiot
- The player’s mother, Véronique, would be a difficult negotiator to manage
- The mother of Adrien Rabiot has the reputation of clashing the figures of the game
Manchester United have agreed a £15million deal with Juventus for the transfer of Adrien Rabiot, according to reports.
Rabiot, who has fallen out of favor at Juventus and has just one year left on his contract, will join United if the parties involved agree personal terms, claims a report in The Sun.
With just one year left on his current deal with Juventus, the France international is available at a discount and is said to be keen on a move away from Turin.
Manchester United have reportedly agreed to a £15m fee for Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot
Juventus signed Rabiot on a free transfer from Paris Saint Germain in 2019, with the midfielder deciding, together with his mother, Véronique, that his prospects were in better hands away from the French capital.
The Frenchman struggled to deliver on the early promise of his Juventus career and his move to Turin coincided with the club relinquishing their grip on the Serie A title.
United, if they acquired the player, would receive a talented midfielder who has an in-game reputation as a tricky customer in the dressing room.
This is partly due to the reputation bestowed upon his mother, who clashed with gaming personalities during her son’s career.
The club now face a battle to land the player with them having to negotiate with the player’s tough mother
Véronique represents Rabiot and is said to have clashed with the star’s teammates and sporting directors and demanded to meet managers and attend training sessions to ensure her son was treated and cared for in the right way.
She already asked to go on a pre-season tour when her son signed his first professional forms at PSG when she was partly responsible for his fall into the reserve of the same club due to salary demands.
She would claim about the incident that her son was being held ‘hostage’ by the club and that it amounted to him soon being in ‘jail’ and being fed only ‘bread and water’.
Erik ten Hag saw his tenure as United boss get off to the worst possible start on Sunday afternoon at home to Brighton
A move to Spain in 2018 did not happen over wage demands.
United critics have said Rabiot’s move is tantamount to the club panicking as the transfer window enters its final stages.
The club lost their opening match of the 2022-23 campaign, and first manager Erik ten Hag, at home to Brighton. Several fans have called for a restructuring of the United midfielder as the club chased Frenkie de Jong all summer to the detriment of other targets.
Rabiot is not seen as an alternative to De Jong with the club still hoping to land the Dutchman.
