Fun in the sun! Lena Dunham offered a glimpse of her summer plans while rocking her favorite bikinis.
“One piece two piece red piece blue piece,” Dunham, 36, captioned the Instagram photo compilation on Tuesday, July 5. The post included photos of the former Girls in Assorted Swimsuits by Hunza G.
A month prior, Dunham showed off her body in another two-piece bikini set, writing via Instagram, “Sometimes I forget how important wearing a bikini is.”
The social media uploads come after Dunham previously hit back at body-shamers who made him reconsider his time on the internet. “Last week was great for many reasons. First, I got married. My husband and I traveled the country and watched beehives and fields of wildflowers. I was able to feel the intense love from my friends/family around us,” the New York native captioned a lengthy Instagram post in October 2021, a month after exchanging vows with louis feber.
At the time, the writer noted that she chose to use social media less after checking the comments. “I say this because over the years I have shared many challenges with you and those moments of joy made me think that we should also admit when we are happy – it is not a crime”, she continued. “But all this security made me forget, for a moment, why I’ve created such intense boundaries with the internet over the past few years. It’s a little too easy to feel the glow of support and forget the cesspool behind it – so I looked around and saw some gnarly stuff, most of it not worth answering or even sharing with you.
Dunham used her platform to slam the negativity directed at her appearance.
“But one story that I take issue with, largely because it’s a story that I don’t want other women, other people, to lodge in their heads, is that I kind of should feel ashamed because my body has changed since my last TV appearance,” she wrote. “First of all, ‘Did Lena ate the cast of Girls’ just isn’t a very good joke – I might add that for the Tweeter. Second, it’s ironic to have my body compared to a body that has also been the object of public scorn – an echo chamber of body shame.
She continued: ‘The photos I’m being compared to are from when I was in active addiction with an undiagnosed illness. In the 4 years since I got sober and started life as someone who aspires to health and not just success.
The filmmaker concluded her lengthy post by reminding others not to let rude comments affect their self-image. “I say this for anyone else whose appearance has been altered by time, illness or circumstance – it’s okay to live in your current body without treating it as transient. I am, and I really appreciate that. I love you all,” she added.
