DOWNEY (CBSLA) – Kaiser Permanente says Downey’s emergency room is being diverted as it is overrun with COVID-19 and flu patients.
Many emergency departments are full due to the latest surge in both flu and COVID-19 patients in Los Angeles County, which reported the highest number of new cases since the start of the pandemic — 37,215 new cases on Thursday. This latest wave of infections appears to be caused by the Omicron variant, which experts say is highly contagious even for people who have been fully vaccinated and boosted.
Kaiser this week put its Downey Medical Center on a diversion, meaning the facility will not accept new patients in the emergency room, who must be admitted to be cared for in other hospitals.
