Sweet, crunchy and slightly tart pineapple is considered an excellent food for weight loss. The tasty fruit is a popular ingredient in desserts, drinks and salads and gives food a distinct taste. A cup of fresh pineapple chunks has 82 grams of calories, 0.89 grams of protein and 0.20 grams of fat according to WebMD.

WHAT IS THE PINEAPPLE DIET

There is no shortage of fad diets and one of them has become very trendy these days in the pineapple diet. As the name suggests, people follow this diet to lose weight fast and only eat pineapple for two days a week while eating normally on the remaining days. The diet was created by a Danish psychologist called Sten Hegeler who wrote this book with his wife titled Sexy Pineapple Diet which promised rapid weight loss and overall wellbeing. However, over time, many people follow the modified version of this diet and eat pineapple for several days or weeks together instead of two days a week, which could be quite risky for your health.

SIDE EFFECTS: WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU EAT TOO MANY PINEAPPLE?

Nutritionist Lovneet Batra in her recent Instagram post talks about the side effects of eating only pineapple for several days.

– You will be extremely hungry, irritable and tired Because pineapple is so acidic, it might upset your stomach, especially if that’s all you eat for an entire day. You may also feel nauseous or have diarrhea.

– Side effects such as dizziness, fainting, headache, hunger pains, insomnia, weakness and extreme hunger can affect you because pineapple contains less than a gram of protein and fat per cup and lacks many vitamins and minerals that can still put you at risk for nutrient deficiencies.

– Additionally, extremely high amounts of bromelain (an enzyme found in pineapple) can cause skin rashes, vomiting, diarrhea, and excessive menstrual bleeding.

“Well, you don’t have to follow a restrictive diet to lose weight, but if you want to lose weight, it’s best to create a small calorie deficit by eliminating or reducing your consumption of sugary drinks, ultra-processed foods or consider working with,” says Batra.
