Magnus Lygdback has worked with some of Hollywood’s biggest stars, creating bespoke workout and nutrition programs to get James McAvoy and Gal Gadot in movie shape. In a recent video on his YouTube channel, Lygdback turns his attention to people with more ordinary lifestyles – people in his local community – and challenges them to get back to the best physical shape possible in just one month.

To do this, his neighbors support the workouts and meal plans Lygdback used to help Ben Affleck and Alexander Skarsgard build muscle during Justice League and The man from the north respectively. They all train together every Sunday, but will then be responsible for their own individual training during the week.

After a warm-up on the assault bike and treadmill, a typical lower body session would consist of goblet squats, side steps, ice skates, leg presses, and lunges. “The quality of the set matters more than the length of the rest,” advises Lygdback. For the upper body, he demonstrates the correct technique on lat pulldowns, incline bench press, rolled knee bends, rotary arm raises, triceps lowerings and skull crushers.

“I got really strong, which is good, things I could only do one thing, I do 20, which is amazing,” said one of the band members after 30 days. “I’ve lost about 15 pounds in the last four weeks… Everything else is just progress. It’s being stronger, feeling good, doing things I never could have done before, which is honestly a win in my book.”

“The physical appearance is one thing, but what I’ve seen is the mental and energetic change in a lot of you as well, which has been the coolest change,” Lygdback says. “The physical aspect is just a nice little side effect.”
