Boat sinks after catching fire southwest of Ottawa

A boat captain made it safely to shore when his boat caught fire and sank southwest of Ottawa.

Emergency crews responded to reports that a 30ft vessel was on fire in the Rideau Ferry area on Saturday.

“Captain suffered minor burns and made it safely to shore before the vessel sank,” the Ontario Provincial Police said in a tweet.

The Ministry of the Environment has been informed of the incident.

According to the police, the sunken ship will be recovered from the water.

Rideau Ferry is located 90 kilometers southwest of downtown Ottawa.
