1 in 5 North West employees struggle to be healthy due to poor food supply

1 in 5 employees in the North West said it was difficult for them to be healthy at work because of poor diet, a new national survey has revealed.

The Canteen Spend Study, from Just Eat for Business, surveyed UK office workers to reveal their attitudes towards food provision at work – including work canteens and office delivery – and identify aspects that they appreciate and what they would change.

As many workers in the Northwest settle back into their office routines, the focus has once again shifted to what employees eat for lunch and how it impacts their health and well-being.

And with 1 in 5 employees struggling to be healthy at work due to a lack of varied and quality meals provided by employers, the focus is on improving the food supply.

These issues are evident when it comes to office canteens, as a fifth (22%) of respondents in the region want their canteens to offer healthier options, while 59% believe the quality of food on offer could be improved. .

This has clear implications for people with restrictions or allergies, as the survey found that 15% of employees do not have their food needs met in work canteens.

The type of food offered is also a major concern for unrestricted employees, as the survey shows that workplace canteens can often be too restrictive or expensive to use.

However, there are still clear benefits to enjoying team food at work, as the survey found that 22% of employees enjoy eating in a social atmosphere, while one in 10 consider regular team lunches are a great perk at work.

Azmaira Maker, a clinical psychologist, emphasizes the benefits of providing food at work, saying: “By providing healthy, high-quality food, an organization aims for healthy, alert employees who have the right kind of fuel in them to keep them performing at their best.

Despite the obvious benefits of catered lunch breaks, the survey also revealed that half (55%) of employees have never been picked up by their employer.
