Woman killed on busy Scottish road after being hit by car while police launched probe

A major police investigation has been launched after a woman in South Lanarkshire was shot and killed.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Croftfoot Road, near Rutherglen, around 6:36 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 13.

The 55-year-old, who has not yet been named, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene, despite the best efforts of medics.

It is currently unknown what kind of car it is or whether the driver was injured.

Police are calling on people who have dashcam images from the area surrounding the accident to come forward.

Sergeant Adnan Alam of Motherwell Road Policing said: “Investigation into this incident is at an early stage.

“It happened on a busy road and we are calling on anyone who was in the area at the time or has dashcam footage of the crime scene to contact 101 quoting Incident Reference Number 2816 dated January 13, 2022.”
