Winter camping in a dome is possible in this small town near Toronto

When you think of camping, you usually associate the idea with warm summer evenings by a fire roasting marshmallows. If you miss the fun of camping in the winter, you’re in luck, because you can go camping in a dome in this small town near Toronto.

The heated camping dome is located in Port Perry, just about an hour’s drive northeast of Toronto.

Birchwood offers you a luxurious camping experience, complete with a queen-size bed, a kitchenette for preparing meals, and even free WiFi.

The geodesic dome has floor-to-ceiling windows that provide views of the surrounding forest during the day and the stars at night.

Unfortunately, there are no built-in bathrooms in the dome, but there is a glamorous outbuilding just a few steps away. There are private outdoor showers for you to use, but they are only available in the spring, summer, and fall.

This type of camping is considered glamping as you have access to amenities not normally associated with traditional camping.

After you settle into your dome, take a hike on one of the man trails or go ice fishing at Lake Scugog.

If you don’t feel like cooking in the kitchenette, head into town and visit one of the many local restaurants for a bite to eat. While you’re there, check out the historic buildings and local shops.

End the night by lighting a fire in your fire pit and socializing with a hot drink while gazing at the stars.

Be quick to make a reservation, because the places fill up quickly for the winter. Rates start at $230 per night for two guests.
