Vancouver officially becomes a Michelin Guide destination

Vancouver has just been named a Michelin Guide destination, joining Toronto as the only other Canadian city in the program.

Dished learns that the first selection of the Vancouver Michelin Guide will be unveiled in the fall and that the guide’s confidential inspectors are already visiting local restaurants.

All inspectors make reservations anonymously and pay for their own meals.

In May, we announced that Toronto would be the first Canadian city to have its own Michelin guide. The Toronto guide is also set to launch in fall 2022.

“We are thrilled to bring the MICHELIN Guide to Canada’s West Coast and shine a light on all that Vancouver has to offer,” said Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin Guides.

“Our inspectors are already exploring Vancouver. They eagerly immerse themselves in its wide variety of cuisines, prepared with high quality products and served in warm and relaxed atmospheres. Vancouver is celebrated by international travelers for its artsy vibe and multi-faceted identity – from impressive buildings to outdoor spaces – and we’re happy to focus on its highly promising culinary potential.

The selection of Vancouver 2022 restaurants will be based on five criteria: quality products, harmony of flavors, mastery of cooking techniques, the personality of the chef in the kitchen and the regularity between each visit (each restaurant is inspected several times by year).
