Tombolo x New York Department of Sanitation Capsule Collection

New York-based brand Tombolo has become increasingly popular for its “Cabana” lifestyle aesthetic, and for Spring/Summer 2022 it’s teamed up with New York’s Department of Sanitation on a capsule collection that pays homage to the institution and its New York roots.

Co-founders and designers Michael Sard and Chris Galasso launched the brand in 2018 based on the ideology of “idle clothes for quiet getaways”, but in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, designers realized brand ethics (as well as daily life), had been interrupted. To pay tribute to the people who keep NYC clean, safe and healthy, designers have teamed up with DSNY on a collection that celebrates essential workers and recontextualizes DSNY aesthetic hallmarks with items that include a short-sleeved shirt, shorts, a long-sleeved sweater and a souvenir cap. As terry is a mainstay of the brand’s seasonal collections, it appears here in the green and white tie-waist shorts and the white with green collar and zip-up shirt with pockets.

While each piece incorporates some use of DSNY’s iconic caduceus logo and forest green colorway, the “Keep New York City Clean” slogan also makes an appearance alongside the brand’s palm and cursive logo. Additionally, eco-friendly materials like TencelTM, organic cotton and organic canvas help complete the environmental aspect of the collection.

Remarking on the capsule and the New York heritage of Tombolo, Sard says, “We grew up in New York with DSNY iconography around every corner – every trash can and garbage truck. The organization is the backbone of New York logistics.

“Beyond what they do on a day-to-day basis, DSNY responds to crises: everything from a typical snowstorm to cleaning up debris after 9/11 or delivering over a million meals a day. to New Yorkers in need during COVID,” he adds.

To celebrate the capsule, Tombolo and the DSNY held a launch event at New York’s Spring Street Salt Shed and announced that 10% of proceeds from sales will go to the organization’s Sanitation Foundation.

The collection is available now and can be purchased from the brand’s website, with prices ranging from US$58 to US$158.

Separately, the Supreme x Nike Zoom Air Flight 95 Spring 2022 collaboration has dropped.
