TED NUGENT Says He Didn't Hate JOAN JETT: 'I Even Hailed The Lesbian Thing'

Ted Nugent has defended his recent comments about Joan Jett, saying he was only “honest” when questioning her inclusion on a list of the world’s best guitarists.

late last month, Ted blasted Rolling Stone magazine for holding: jett on the list of “100 Greatest Guitarists”. The 73-year-old rocker, whose recent time in the spotlight has been more for his political views than his music, railed against jett‘s appearance on the list during its December 30th YouTube live stream. He said, “How do you make a list of the top 100 guitarists and not a list? Derek St Holmes? How do you do that? You do that by lying. In the same way you get Grandmaster Flash in the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame. You do that by lying. You must be a liar. You must have shit for brains and you must be a soulless soulless dick to convert Joan Jett… [I] love Joan. Some of my best memories are lesbians. I like the lesbians; it’s a cocktail of wonder. [I] love Joan Jett — ‘put another diamond in the jukebox, dear’; great rock and roller – but as a top 100 guitarist but you don’t make a list Rickey Medlocke [LYNYRD SKYNYRD] or Dave Amato [REO SPEEDWAGON]. Actually? Or Dick Wagner? Dick Wagner and THE FROST from Detroit. Or Mark Farner? Mark Farner by GRAND FUNK RAILWAY. Joan Jett is on the list but not Mark Farner? Grandmaster Flash is in the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame but not GRAND FUNK RAILWAY? [Laughs]

“By the way, if… Grandmaster Flash is in the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame and Joan Jett is on the list of top 100 guitarists, then I am Caitlyn Jennerboy toys,” he concluded.

After nugent was widely criticized for picking jett as someone who didn’t deserve to be on the rolling stone list, he doubled down on his comments during an interview with Dave Spurious by The real music observer. In response to the negative feedback he received for his comments, he said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “I started praising Joan Jett‘s real shitkicker, down to earth, all-American rock ‘n’ roll references. I started praising her. I even greeted the lesbian thing.

“Here’s the question: how the hell can anyone listen to what I’m saying and then claim it’s about hate and about beating and belittling? Joanis amazing. I mean, THE RUNNERS. Her whole, ‘Put another diamond in the jukebox, honey.’ I mean, she’s the real rock and roll McCoy. But on the list of ‘top 100 guitarists’ all over the world, even ‘Dull’ Stone for true virtuosos of the six-string? That was my statement. I only used Joan as an example because she happens to be a perfect one.”

Addressing fake straight away, nugent continued: “I think I can tell you are a true music lover – you love mind and soul, defiance, middle fingers on fire, real musical authority, all that combination that represents that dynamic and majestic soundtrack of our lives, our American Dream , and if there is a German or a Spanish Dream I hope they get a soundtrack too Joan Jett represents that. But on the top 100 guitarist list, before Tommy Shaw [STYX], before Rickey Medlocke and before Derek St Holmes – I could go on with a hundred examples… I was just using that beautiful young lady as an example, and people were literally going crazy trying to turn it into hate.

“There Was No Hate”, Ted added. “I have no hate. My hatred was amputated when I was five years old. No hate – all love, compassion and honesty. That’s what drives people crazy: my honesty.”

nugentThe December 2021 comments weren’t the first time he’s criticized rolling stone editor David Fricke‘s picks for “100 Greatest Guitarists”. Four years ago, he said he has not received the recognition he deserves as a guitarist, explaining: “This is not an ego. I have an ego, because I have self-esteem, because I put my heart and soul into being the best.” who I can be. If you’re running a race and your chest breaks the ribbon and you’ve won the race, I think you can look into the camera and say, ‘Man, I’m fast. Man, I ran good.’ I think that should be celebrated always be celebrated. But remember, those people in the musical [sic] industry making those decisions about who is the best and who is in the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame“They hate me because I’m against dope. And I ben against doping. I don’t think it’s right. I don’t want my sons and daughters, I don’t want my grandchildren, I don’t want my pilots, I don’t want my band, I don’t want my crew getting stoned. I don’t want them to be comfortably sedated. I don’t want to have to wake them up three times to get to the gig. I don’t want to remind them how the song goes. I’ve had this all my life. And these people who have to decide this don’t like me because I’ve been on the board of directors for 25 years with the most votes on the National Rifle Association. They somehow blame inanimate instruments on crime.”

He continued: “I know that Jimi Hendrix was a god, and Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley and Joe Perry and Joe Bonamassa and Rickey Medlocke and Billy Gibbons and Eddie Van Halen and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Of course they are the best. Steve Vaic. Joe Satrianic. Hell, Vic [Johnson] in Sammy Hagarthe band is a incredible guitarist. Derek St Holmes is a incredible guitarist. Brad Whitford… I could go on and on – unlimited. But to think I don’t qualify in the top 100 guitarists in America is just a stupid lie. Case closed.”

nugentthe new studio album, “Detroit Muscle”, is calculated on April 29 via sidewalk music. The sequel to 2018 “The Music Made Me Do It” was recorded with Ted‘s current band, including bassist Greg Smith and drummer Jason Hartless.
