The UNC Academy of Educators is now accepting applications for the Teaching as a Resident: Highlighting Evidence and Enthusiasm for Learning (TARHEEL) program.
Piloted in 2020, the AOE TARHEEL program offers residents, AOE members and non-members of UNC hospitals and the region’s Health Education Centers (AHEC) system, the opportunity to participate in a standardized program to improve interdepartmental collaboration , strengthen the commitment between professors and residents, and increase academic projects and publications, beneficial to improve the pedagogical knowledge of professors.
The TARHEEL program is divided into fall and spring semesters. Sessions will take place on Wednesday evenings between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. and all sessions will be virtual.
This program increases residents’ teaching skills in mentoring and training medical students, physician assistant students, and other learners in the AHEC system. Sessions are interactive lectures and are facilitated by UNC-Chapel Hill faculty and TARHEEL program co-directors Taylor Carter, MD, of General Surgery; Winston Li, MD, of psychiatry; and Eric Zwemer, MD, of Pediatrics.
