Six Exercises to Ease Joint Pain and Improve Stability

If you suffer from stiff, achy joints, just going up and down stairs can be daunting, let alone going to the gym to work out. But exercise can actually help ease joint pain, says Morgan Gregory, director of strength, conditioning and nutrition for the Philadelphia Phillies Major League Baseball team.

Joint discomfort often stems from joint instability, he says. Isometric exercises, where you hold an exercise rather than moving through a range of motion, are a great way to strengthen muscles and build stability without a joint opening or closing and causing more pain, he says.
