Roy Keane slams Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford for smiling at Chelsea

Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane has slammed Marcus Rashford for his smile ahead of Thursday night’s clash with Chelsea at Old Trafford.

With Jadon Sancho ruled out through illness, United caretaker boss Ralf Rangnick made just one change to the side beaten by Arsenal last Saturday, pushing Rashford back into the starting line-up. The England international had started just one of United’s last three games before the clash with Thomas Tuchel’s side.

Rashford has had a very difficult campaign, scoring just five goals in 31 pre-game appearances for Chelsea. His form has not gone without criticism and his future at Old Trafford is shrouded in constant speculation.

But before a ball had even been kicked on Thursday night, Keane stood in the way of Rashford’s smile as he warmed up with the rest of his teammates. The former United skipper admitted he wasn’t too fond of smiling players, and compared Rashford’s performance against Liverpool to that of a child.

“I want to see a bit more courage from him, we haven’t seen enough of him this season, he hasn’t been consistent, hasn’t worked hard enough, hasn’t been brave to take on people “, Keane told Sky Sports. “He’s 24 now, he needs to show more maturity and be more consistent, that’s key for any player at a big club.

“I’m really frustrated with him. Every time I see Marcus warming up he smiles.

“I don’t like it when you smile too much. Yes, smile when you’re doing something, but we’ve always said when he bursts onto the scene, he affects games, but he doesn’t do that anymore. He does very little. his performance last week was very immature, he almost played like a child.”
