Police release CCTV view as part of Sydney shooting murder investigation

Shady Kanj was shot dead in Chester Hill, Sydney’s west, last August in what police believe was a “targeted attack”.

As part of ongoing investigations, detectives from the Homicide Squad carried out a secondary investigation in the Western Sydney area and discovered the vision.

It shows a man and a woman in a white Audi Q5 driving from a McDonald’s in Lidcombe before the murder.

Police do not believe the man and woman were involved in Kanj’s murder, but may have information that could help investigations.

Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty urged the man and woman, or those who knew their identities, to come forward.

“Detectives have launched CCTV in the hope of identifying the occupants of a white Audi captured the night of Shady’s murder as we suspect they have information relevant to our investigation,” he said.

“This vehicle is captured at the fast food restaurant in Lidcombe before the shooting and then again at the corner of Mona Street and Clyde Street in South Granville later that night.

“Given that the vehicle was traveling in the vicinity of the murder at the time of the shooting, it is possible that the occupants saw something suspicious that may further our investigations.”

Doherty said police believe the individuals involved in the murder visited Miller Street before and after the shooting.

“As part of ongoing investigations, detectives have returned to Miller Street in South Granville to re-investigate the area,” he said.

“Those involved in Shady’s murder are believed to have visited Miller Street before and after the incident and may even have had evidence in the area.”

The CCTV release comes months after police seized a white Lexus sedan, which was allegedly disguised and used in the murder.

The disguised Lexus was shown traveling to and from the Chester Hill area the night of Shady Kanj's murder.

It is suspected that the Lexus CT200H sedan was “wrapped” in a black nylon film to disguise its true color.

The vehicle has since undergone a thorough forensic examination.
