Outstanding Seniors in College of Science: My Duyen Tran

This spring, each department of the University of Arizona College of Science named an outstanding senior who went above and beyond during his time as a Wildcat. We are happy to share their stories as they reflect on their time at UArizona. The next step in the senior flagship series is My Duyen Tran.

College of Sciences: Why did you choose your field of study?

My Duyen: I chose to study Molecular and Cellular Biology (MCB) because of the support I received from the faculty and professors in the major. I knew this is where I would be supported and I had such a great time taking classes in this major. The relationships I have established within MCB are invaluable to me.

COS: Tell us about a course or research project that you really enjoyed

My Duyen: One of my favorite and most memorable classes was MCB 181 Honors with Dr. Weinert! It was one of my first MCB courses, and I loved and enjoyed the learning environment created by Dr. Weinert. I felt really supported in this class and had a really fun time learning all aspects of biology. This is the class that gave me the courage to pursue research as an undergraduate!

COS: What is one specific memory from your time at UA that you will cherish forever?

My Duyen: One of the memories I will always cherish is when my friends and I studied late at night in the main library to prepare for our exams. We shared food, talked and communicated with each other during our times of stress. I very much appreciate the friendships and relationships I have made throughout my time at MCB.

COS: What is the next step for you after graduation?

My Duyen: I plan to apply to medical school after I graduate. It is my dream to serve people through medicine and to apply everything I have learned in research and community service to be the best doctor I can be.
