Ottawa Pizza Podcast Releases First Season Finale – Apartment613

By Tyler and Steph from Ottawa Pizza Podcast.

Hi friends! We’re Tyler and Steph, the hosts of the Ottawa Pizza Podcast, a show where two friends try pizzas from Ottawa pizzerias to determine if the pizza is, as they say, good, just okay, or downright bad. During our first season, we discovered that we almost always think pizza is good, but sometimes the answer is “it’s not bad”. If you haven’t guessed it already, we’re not professional food critics, but rather two people who just love a good pie.

We’re particularly interested in what we (and many others) call the “Ottawa style” of pizza. This pizza is thick, greasy and heavy on the cheese. It’s also called “Lebanese-style pizza” because, more often than not, this style of pizza comes from a family-run store owned and operated by people of Lebanese descent. We think this style of pizza is amazing and deserves to be revered alongside the best kind of pizza in any American city. We were also informed that this type of pizza is not only unique to Ottawa, but also to Halifax, which we don’t have the energy to dispute, but hope to investigate further in the near future.

After about five episodes of delicious Ottawa-style (and other) pizzas, we realized that the amount of pizza we were eating was definitely killing us (physically, emotionally, and financially). At this point, we thought it would be safe to take a little (body) break. Therefore, we are now in our detox season, and after a few months we will be back and ready for round two.

So, in closing, we’re trying to answer a question that’s been plaguing Ottawans ever since the log drivers parked their first logs: is there a difference between 1 for 1 pizza and 2 for 1 pizza? Is it really two pies for the price of one? Is 1 for 1 nothing more than a basic economics lesson? Who will reign supreme in this epic battle? Only we have the guts to find the answers to these questions, and while we really can’t remember at this point if we actually found those answers, we’re sure we at least recorded the process. Here are some of our thoughts on what happened:

Tyler“It was, without exaggeration, the hardest thing I’ve ever attempted in my entire life. Partly because eating so much pizza was a chore, and partly because I led a blessed and charmed life, without conflict or trial.

Stephen: “Do I need to get up at 2am to take Tums? Yes I did. Did I break 14 years of vegetarianism for this episode? Maybe. Was this episode a huge mistake? Can -be.”

Our grand finale is now available, wherever podcasts are heard! We hope you like it, and as always: We love you (and the pizza).
