New York crime: 1 dead, 2 injured after gunman opened fire at Bronx store

TREMONT, Bronx (WABC) — Three people were shot, one fatally, when a gunman suddenly opened fire on a smoking room in the Tremont section of the Bronx.

The police now have a person in custody and are questioning this person.

The shooter fired several shots into the store on East Burnside Avenue around 12:48 a.m. Tuesday.

He then walked in and shot and killed a 31-year-old man.

The victim was shot in the head and chest and pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other people, both aged 34, were also hit by the gunfire. A man was hit in the arm and a woman in the chest.

They were both rushed to St Barnabas Hospital in stable condition.

Neither appears to be the intended target of the shooter.

The suspect, described as a short, heavy, bald Hispanic man wearing a black hoodie, paced in front of the store before opening fire.

He fled on foot towards the Grand Concourse.

Police took one person into custody for questioning.

No charges have been filed.
