Middleton: Police launch investigation after body found

POLICE have launched an investigation to identify a body found in Rochdale Canal yesterday.

It comes after a deceased male body was found in the area.

A huge emergency presence was seen on a major road at around 4:30pm, where a cordon was in place, and a search was conducted in a wooded area nearby.

A GMP spokesperson for GMP said: “Officers were called to reports of a body in the Rochdale Canal on 1 April 2022 and found a deceased male.

“Formal identification has not taken place and investigations are ongoing.”

Firefighters remained on the scene for two and half hours, with one fire engine from Chadderton there.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 4.30pm on 1 April, firefighters were called to a police incident on Greengate in Middleton.

“One fire engine from Chadderton attended the scene. Firefighters were in attendance for approximately two and a half hours.”
