Mexican cultural sculptures add color to Wheaton Park

Exhibition of Mexican art sculptures in the Cantigny park until October

WHEATON, IL—An outdoor art exhibit titled “Alebrijes: Creatures from a Dream World” opened in June in Wheaton.

The DuPage Mexican Cultural Center commissioned six artists from Mexico City to create these works of art. Nearly 50 sculptures reside in the park of Cantigny.

The exhibition pays tribute to the famous Mexican artist Pedro Linares whose fever dream in 1936 brought these creatures to life. While Alebrijes was a coined word from that dream, it stuck and spawned a new kind of art in real life – even serving as inspiration for the Disney movie “Coco.”
