Matthew McConaughey and his family have a lot to celebrate.

On Friday, the 52-year-old actor shared a heartwarming post from his mother Kay McConaughey dressed in a ruffled shirt while decked out in a birthday sash that read “90 and fabulous,” along with a tiara. McConaughey commemorated his mother’s huge milestone with a beautiful caption in her honor.

“Ma Mac McConaughey, 90 years old today – lives on joy, forgiveness, resistance and ‘can’t imagine not being here’. – Congratulations Mom,” he wrote.

Friends and fans of celebrities flooded the comments with birthday wishes and couldn’t resist letting the star know how amazing his mom looked.

“Amaze Myself, by Kay McConaughey is one of my all-time favorite books – Congratulations on the Coolest Mommy!” Jennifer Garner wrote.

“If that’s 90, yes please! She’s beautiful!” noted one fan.

“Congratulations Mrs. Kay!! You are so beautiful!! I hope to grow old as gracefully and beautifully as you are!” a fan praised.

“Happy 90th birthday, beautiful Ma Mac. Wishing you the most memorable day full of joy, fun, laughter and an abundance of love,” added another commenter.

During an interview on Red Table Talk in 2020, McConaughey opened up about his relationship with his mother, saying it was once tense, as the couple hadn’t spoken for eight years.

“I was trying to find my own balance with fame and stuff,” he admitted. “And I would share things with her…some of those things that I would share could be on the six o’clock news three days later.” McConaughey continued: “There were years when I didn’t want to share things with her because I was also finding my own balance. I thought, ‘Look, Mom, loose lips will sink ships. There are a lot of people who like to know these things. and it’s none of their business.'”

When McConaughey felt more stable in his career, he and his mother were able to mend the gap. “My boat was built well enough where I didn’t feel like she could sink it,” he said. “We cured that in 2004.”
