The disruption in the stands comes after Erik ten Hag’s reign as the Man United boss got off to the worst possible start.

They trailed two-nil at the break as his side failed to overturn the result in the second half – falling only one goal.

Ten Hag criticized his side’s performance and called the loss a “setback” as he aired his feelings in his post-match interview.

“Of course, definitely a setback and a real disappointment,” he told Sky Sports.

“I knew from the start that it wouldn’t be easy. We gave away two easy balls and it wasn’t good in the organisation.

“It’s clear to see in the second half that we were better in midfield with Eriksen down and Ronaldo on the rise. We created and Rashford had two good chances, it’s a shame we didn’t score.

“I’m not happy, totally no. We lost and it wasn’t necessary. We should do better.

“We made mistakes on the ball and organizational mistakes in defence. We have to learn lessons and learn from them quickly.

“Brighton are a decent team, all compliments, but I watch my team and we shouldn’t give up two easy goals.”

Ten Hag takes charge of his second Premier League game next Saturday when his side travel to Brentford.
