Man pleads guilty to murdering crew member on ship bound for Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A crew member who stabbed his supervisor to death on a container ship heading for Los Angeles has pleaded guilty to a federal charge that could carry a life sentence. Authorities say Michael Monegro of the Philippines pleaded on Monday to committing violence that could endanger the safe navigation of a vessel. Prosecutors say he stabbed his supervisor aboard a container ship heading from Shanghai to Los Angeles in September 2020. The ship was about 90 miles off the coast of Southern California. He was arrested when the ship docked in Los Angeles.
