London: 120 firefighters fight “intense fire” in Deptford building | Firefighters

A major fire has broken out at a building in southeast London, with more than 100 firefighters battling the blaze.

It was first reported at 1pm, but 20 fire engines and 120 crew remained at the scene in Creek Road, Deptford more than five hours later.

London Fire Brigade said 13 people evacuated the building and said no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.

Station Commander Ian Smith, LFB, said: ‘This is an intense fire located in the roof of the building and fire crews are working hard in difficult conditions.

“There is a lot of smoke coming from the incident and we are asking local residents to close their doors and windows.”

Residents told the Press Association that building work was underway on the block of flats at the time, with scaffolding visible around the walls of the building.
