Hugh Jackman posts photo that sparked rumor

Hugh Jackman continues to play with the emotions of the internet. The former Wolverine actor took to Twitter this morning with a photo of himself in a adventure time t-shirt, ominously captioned, “Let’s see what rumor the look on my face starts today…”

This tweet is in response to the rumored social media activity of Jackman last week, where he posted a cryptic image on Instagram, simply showing the Wretched star looks at his iPhone with a shocked facial expression. Jackman captioned this Instagram post, “😳.”

Fans have speculated that Jackman reacted to everything from the Deadpool 3 storyline to Charles Xavier’s gruesome death in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

While 2017 Logan was as definitive of a final chapter as possible for Jackman’s Wolverine, fans are still clamoring for the metal-clawed mutant to make a big return to the big screen. This is mostly because unlike 2017, Jackman now has the ability to interact with heroes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Since Jackman hung up the jeans and the white tank top, 21st Century Fox has been acquired by Disney. This merger moved all of Fox’s intellectual property into the House of Mouse, with Mickey’s most notable new toys being the X-Men and the Fantastic Four. Mutants have been owned by Marvel Studios for over three years now, and the buzz surrounding their MCU debut has been active ever since Marvel President Kevin Feige teased their arrival at San Diego Comic-Con 2019.

Despite the new opportunities awaiting Jackman in the MCU, the veteran actor stressed that his time as Weapon X was over.

“There’s nothing in my Kevin Feige inbox, [which] means it’s probably, whatever idea I had, not on the table. Let’s be clear,” Jackman told Jake’s Takes in August 2021. “But I realized before I shot Logan, I was like, we had the idea. We knew what it was going to be, right? And I thought, ‘This is it.’ And it really helped me, it really helped me to know that I was entering my last season, that it was my last season. That I took full advantage of it. And he’s still a character close to my heart. But I know it’s done.”

Even though Jackman isn’t shaking his claws anymore, they may be getting closer to their MCU debut. Following confirmation that he has met with Marvel Studios, Rocketman Star Taron Egerton told ComicBook that he would “love” to take on Wolverine in a future Marvel project.

When Wolverine makes his MCU debut, will it be Jackman, Egerton, or someone else? Let us know in the comments!
