Avalanche danger closes highway

Highway 5A has now reopened to traffic after avalanche containment.

Highway 3 remains closed between Hope and Princeton.

High avalanche danger has closed both Highway 3 and Highway 5A in the Similkameen.

Highway 3 is closed in both directions between Hope and Princeton, DriveBC reports. It has been closed since 9pm on Thursday and there is no estimated time of reopening.

Highway 5A, which connects Princeton and Aspen Grove, will be closed until 3:00 PM for avalanche control operations between Round Lake Rd and Beaver Lane.

The Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Merritt, which is for commercial vehicles only, is also closed.

Drivers are advised to check road conditions before departing.
