Hide the pets: A secret fireworks display is planned for Vancouver tonight

If you hear loud booms in downtown Vancouver tonight, don’t worry: it’s just fireworks you’re not invited to.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Vancouver Convention Center’s Twitter account issued an alert that the expo will take place at 10 p.m. on May 3.

“The fireworks will last approximately five minutes,” according to the tweet, and is for a “conference celebration,” so don’t expect a preview of the Honda Celebration of Light.

According to a quick look at the Vancouver Convention Centre’s website and schedule, the fireworks are likely tied to the CIMBC 2022 convention and expo, “Canada’s premier mining trade show.”

The display will take place in Burrard Inlet, so it should be visible if you are in the area, and it will last approximately five minutes.

E-Comm 911 also retweeted the tweet from the Vancouver Convention Center, which is likely to ward off 911 callers who are unsure why the loud booms are happening.

If you live in the area and have pets, it might be a good idea to prepare some cuddles around 10 p.m.

A spokesperson for the Vancouver Convention Center told Daily Hive that it was not directly involved in the fireworks.
