Governor Polis Declares May as Fitness Month in Colorado

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – With global warming and a culture of outdoor recreation, it’s probably no surprise that Colorado now has an official fitness month. Gov. Jared Polis signed the proclamation on Tuesday, making Colorado’s May Fitness Month as well as Mental Health Awareness Month.

Polis cited the harsh conditions many Coloradans have been forced to adapt to during the worst of the pandemic as the main motivating factor, as well as Colorado’s status as one of the healthiest states in the United States. Mental health benefits and equal access to fitness, whether in a gym, trail or at home, are also motivations behind the proclamation.
