FoodWhat has the answer for a nutritious dinner – Santa Cruz Sentinel

Cyrus Brandenburg provides a stubbornly positive presence as the FoodWhat team carry boxes full of produce they have harvested from the land the organization cultivates in Corralitos. The 30 young people who are now finishing their summer session brought home boxes containing the ingredients for a nutritious organic dinner that they could prepare with their families for a shared meal. FoodWhat is a youth empowerment and food justice organization that engages young people in relationships with land, food and each other in a way that is grounded in love and rooted in justice. Teens from Watsonville to Santa Cruz join the FoodWhat team through the Spring Internship, Summer Job Training and Fall Project Management programs. FoodWhat young people grow, cook, eat and distribute fresh, healthy food while tackling local food justice issues. The majority of the crew from this summer will remain to become program managers in the fall. (Shmuel Thaler – Sentinel of Santa Cruz)
