The flourishing “Anglo-Saxon” pizzeria will open its doors on Wednesday July 20 on Bury New Road. It will be the final pizzeria in the Dokes portfolio, coming from the team behind Elnecot at Ancoats, crowning Prestwich as its newest destination following its initial opening in the Society’s food hall on Barbirolli Square in May 2021.
Chef-Patron of Dokes Pizzeria, Michael Clay said, “We are really looking forward to opening in Prestwich; it really was the perfect location and in the short time I was there there seems to be a real sense of community and a strong spirit. We hope we can create a welcoming atmosphere for everyone while serving delicious pizzas on Bury New Road.
Dokes Pizzeria in Prestwich will open at 449A Bury New Road for lunch and dinner from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday to Friday, then 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. It will be able to accommodate 40 seats with a modern sleek design, using the colors of the terracotta brand, creating a relaxed atmosphere of a neighborhood restaurant. British produce will be at the center of the menu. After extensive research over the past five years at their sister restaurant, Elnecot, chef-patron Michael Clay has worked with a long list of incredible producers across Britain. Prestwichers can expect to eat cheese from all corners of the country, salamis and nduja from Curing Rebels in Brighton; creamy British burrata from the original counties and exquisite truffles from Wiltshire. They will also be working with Cinderwood Farm in Cheshire using their wonderful fruit and veg on the ever-changing menu.
Where contemporary meets rustic, Dokes Pizzeria’s dough is made from Yorkshire extra virgin rapeseed oil and a blend of flours, using British heritage grains from Gilchesters Organic Farm in Northumberland , as well as Shipton Mill in Gloucestershire, offering a truly unique recipe for their wheels, a taste like nowhere else in the city. Beyond pizza, their menu will include seasonal salads and pasta (pasta supplied by the wonderful Yorkshire Pasta Company) alongside other small plates that will change regularly depending on what’s available in that season. A brunch will also be served on weekends.
The construction of Dokes pizzeria in Prestwich has not been easy and they are opening much later than expected.
Co-owner Wesley Downham said: “We took the lease on the unit just before Covid hit, so eventually, two years later, it will be very exciting to open the doors. We worked with the excellent interior designers at Phaus to design the restaurant and we think it is a beautiful space for the people of Prestwich. Prestwich is a particularly exciting area at the minute there are big operators investing in the town and people are talking about it
in the national press as one of the best places to live in the country. We can’t wait to get started and add to an already vibrant community.
Dokes’ charm is his playful attitude towards pizza. They pride themselves on creating a relaxed atmosphere to dine whilst retaining the extraordinary flavors of the premium British produce they have hand selected to serve on every course. Think iconic flavor combinations, seasonal pizzas and the finest British ingredients, right on your doorstep in Prestwich.
