Crunch Fitness bringing over 100 jobs to Tallahassee

Tallahassee, Florida – Losing alumni of Florida A&M College, Florida State and Tallahassee Community College to other cities is something Tallahassee commissioners are working to change. Crunch Fitness is one of the newer employers in town and has the same goal in mind as well as being a boost to our local economy.

Crunch Fitness replaces what used to be Winn Dixie on Tharpe Street in Tallahassee. Once completed, the $9 million renovation will, at 55,000 square feet, be the largest gym in the state of Florida.

Crunch will be open 24 hours, 7 days a week and targeting college graduates to fill over 100 vacancies.

“I have always viewed these fitness facilities as a great nourishing program for the wellness programs out there in colleges,” said Nick Farmer, general manager of Crunch Fitness. “Just because once you finish your degree in physiology or your degree in sports management, you can get into fitness and go ahead to get that training and get that experience.”

Memberships at Crunch start at $9.99 per month. The gym hopes to start with about 2,000 members.

This extra foot traffic can be huge for local businesses in the area such as the trust crossing the barbershop.

“People are noticing that as soon as they are standing in the parking lot, they are going to notice the barbershop here,” said Sherman William, owner of Confident Cuts Barber Shop. “It’s huge. We can connect with the workers there and the members. We can build clients out of that.”

Crunch also has a perks program, where members who join the gym will get discounts at participating local businesses.

“Wow,” was the immediate reaction from Tallahassee Commissioner Diane Williams Cox as soon as she walked into the future home of Crunch Fitness. She says the facility will attract more companies to the region.

“It will attract more people. It will attract activity. It may attract groceries, it may attract others to come and help revitalize this area to grow. We want every part of Tallahassee to grow but I am really excited that this is happening here in the Tharp Street Corridor.”

Crunch Fitness hopes to open sometime in late January.
