Cristiano Ronaldo sends moving message of thanks to Manchester United and Liverpool supporters

Cristiano Ronaldo has shared a moving message with Manchester United and Liverpool fans following their emotional tribute to the five-time Ballon d’Or winner and his family. Ronaldo was unavailable for United at Anfield on compassionate leave following the tragic death of his newborn son.

In his absence, United have been humiliated by title-seeking rivals. However, for matters bigger than football, it was a match that provided a seventh-minute moment of solidarity when fans of both teams came together to cheer Ronaldo and his heartbroken family.

Putting rivalries on the pitch aside, the gesture was instigated by Liverpool fans and carried out amid emotional scenes once the Premier League action began. United had previously offered their condolences to Ronaldo as other key figures and players contacted him and his family after their devastating news.

Players from both teams also wore black armbands at Anfield on Tuesday night. It came after Ronaldo and his partner Georgina Rodriguez announced the tragic death of their newborn son. Georgina gave birth to twins on Monday and their baby girl arrived safely.

Addressing his 430 million Instagram followers, Ronaldo – alongside prayer emojis and a video of the moment to cheers from fans – said: “One world. One sport. One global family. Thank you, Anfield. My family and I will never forget this moment of respect and compassion.”
