Officers found the body of the 44-year-old woman at a Bedford Street residence at midday on Monday, police said.

Stephen William Thompson, 42, is charged with first degree murder in his death. He made a brief court appearance on Tuesday and was remanded in custody pending a virtual appearance on July 13.

Court documents also reveal that Thompson is under a restraining order prohibiting him from contacting four people.

There is a ban in place on the publication of any evidence discussed at bail hearings.

Investigators have not released the name of the deceased woman, the cause of death or her relationship to the accused. No further information is being released at this time to protect the integrity of the investigation, police said.
