Technically we don’t have understood that the Grim Reaper will make an appearance on Animal Kingdom before the end of the series’ sixth and final season. But Sunday’s “Clink” started to make it inevitable.
On one side, we had Pope behind bars. The Codys had bought him protection inside from a guy outside named Finnegan. However, it didn’t do the prisoner much good, as he brushed off the help much the same way Deran might shave and get a haircut. Before the hour was up, Pope had not only been stabbed in the gut – by a member of a gang affiliated with the Trujillos – he had fought back against his assailant and had himself thrown into solitary confinement with a sip of dope.
Pope was also not interested in hearing that he could change his plea and have the original culprit dismissed. He didn’t want Lena or Amy to go to trial. And “nothing is happening to Amy…or Lena,” he barked at Deran. “Am I being clear? »
Pope had indeed made himself understood – then clear that J pitched Finnegan the idea of making a “different arrangement” — one that, for $25,000, would have his uncle killed rather than protected. J didn’t pull the trigger on that idea, though. Not yet anyway. By the end of the hour, Craig and Deran had decided what they needed to do was get Pope out of jail. And keep running away forever? Abandon everything they had built instead of just replacing Pope and moving on? “It’s a family business,” grumbled Craig, “and there’s no family without Pope.”
IN OTHER DEVELOPMENTS… | As word spread like wildfire that Pope was behind bars and Craig was high as a kite, the sharks began to surround the Codys. After the Lightning Bolt board was stolen from Deran’s bar, he confronted Tommy. He hadn’t but admitted that people put two and two together. Cath had disappeared and it turned out that she was dead. Adrian disappeared and… well… Yeah, Deran got the picture. People were furious.
After Pope’s stabbing, Smurf’s youngest son met Tina Trujillo in hopes of putting the whole Pete-loser-an-eye thing behind their families. Big chance, she said. Seemingly weak, the Codys were in the crosshairs, and it wasn’t just the Trujillos who put them there. Meanwhile, Vince took Craig to some sort of backyard fight club to get drug addicts back. It didn’t seem to make much sense to him, but it made him seriously reconsider Renn’s offer to move to San Antonio with her and Nick. Oh, and in 1992, Julia and Pope reconciled, and Smurf made Baz jealous by hooking up with a boy his own age. So okay. So, your thoughts? Will the Codys get Pope out of jail…or will J put his uncle under ice?
