When you walk the streets of Canberra today you will see colorful murals across the city and suburbs.
Before self-government, graffiti was considered pure vandalism. It wasn’t until the 90s that discussions began in Canberra about whether graffiti was a creative outlet for young people… and could be considered street art.
A new book traces the history of graffiti… it’s called ‘Their Own Words: 40 Years of Graffiti in Canberra’ and is written by Caren Florance and Jacqui Malins.
