2 suspects in custody, 1 at large after 2 shootings in Preston area

Two suspects have been arrested and another suspect is at large in relation to two shootings in North Preston and East Preston, NS, Friday evening.

At 9:20 pm AT, RCMP tweeted they were looking for a male suspect and that more shots were fired around Bell Street in East Preston. Police want anyone with information on the shootings to contact them directly.

Earlier in the night, around 8:10 pm, an emergency alert was issued asking residents to lock their doors and shelter in place.

RCMP received a call about the shootings at 6:55 pm, Cpl. Chris Marshall told CBC News earlier.

He said no one is believed to be injured.

Marshall said police took one person into custody and two others were seen running into a wooded area behind Brian Street in East Preston. One or those two suspects remains at large.

“We have the area contained at this point,” he said.

Suspect believed to be armed

The suspect is believed to be armed.

Marshall said the force has many officers and resources on site. He said residents should be prepared to possibly evacuate from their homes.

“There may be some folks who police officers attend their home and ask them to evacuate just given the proximity to the area,” he said. “That will be dependent on how the situation develops.”

Police are warning residents not to approach the suspect and to call 911 if spotted.
