2 dead in Salem crash likely involving wrong-way driver

Police were investigating a fatal crash involving multiple vehicles along Route 107/Highland Avenue in Salem, Massachusetts. My guess is that at this point one of the vehicles was traveling the wrong way in the … southbound lane of Highland Avenue,” Miller said. Up to five vehicles were involved in the accident, a said Miller. Video from the scene showed the roof of one of the vehicles cut by first responders. A white sheet covered part of that vehicle. The driver and a female passenger inside the 2009 Ford Focus were pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger was taken to hospital with unspecified injuries. The crash happened around 4:30 p.m., just south of Salem High School, near the Northeast Animal Shelter. Sharon Hodgkins, who works at the Northeast Animal Shelter, said: “They had the jaws of life, people peeling the roof off,” said Raymond Dorski, a witness. “They were trying to dismantle the car to get people out.”
